Essay 22

Call me fortunate if you would like. The universe has always provided for me financially when I have needed it. When I was in a dark time, at the very beginning of my spiritual awakening in 2016, I visited a tarot card reader at the request of my best friend. I had unexpectedly lost my job of nearly a decade. I was depressed, worried about money and my future, and I had lost all sense of who I was. The tarot reader could see that I had lost my job, and he told me not to worry. “You will always have enough money,” he said with a warm smile. That sentence has stayed with me and given me confidence during every uncertain time since.
I have found that when I leap now, the universe responds to catch me. Every move I have made, every step to better myself and expand, has been answered with the universe supporting my actions. Over an eight-year period, I moved apartments numerous times due to various life circumstances. Once, after a much-needed end to a toxic relationship, I moved out of our shared apartment and in with a friend. Unexpectedly, that friend received an amazing job offer in another state after only a couple months together. I couldn’t afford the rent alone, so I found a wonderful apartment for myself. As I settled into my new space, I felt elated and free, but was still healing from the relationship I ended. Not splitting rent and bills meant my monthly expenses had now increased by $400 a month. Within 2 months of moving, I received a very unexpected raise at work, increasing my monthly take-home pay by $450.
I have numerous accounts of similar circumstances. Another time, my car that had been paid off for a few years started giving me trouble. It was 10 years old. I debated on whether to make repairs or just buy a new car. I wasn’t crazy about spending my money on a downpayment or having a monthly car payment again. Then I thought about all the terrible memories tied to that car. Two different abusive relationships with violent fights that took place inside the car. The first ex intentionally put a dent in the car within a couple months of buying it brand new. I cried when it happened. I had worked so hard to afford a new car. Every time I looked at that dent, I remembered that day. It’s time to get rid of that car and everything tied to it, I told myself. I put $4500 down, and I made the purchase. A month later, I received an unexpected check for $5000. And then, at the end of the same year, I received another significant raise at work that eased the burden of the car payment.
I have many more examples I could share. As long as I made the decision from my heart, with an intention to help myself or someone else, the universe helped me in return. I now have unwavering faith that the pattern will continue. But things weren’t always this way. I spent many times in my young adulthood with my bank account overdrawn, searching for change in the couch to do my laundry, eating ramen, and pumping $3 of gas and hoping it was enough to get me home. Something changed along the way though. When I finally lost everything, including myself, and had nowhere else to turn but to God, everything started to shift.
The changes were slow at first. I prayed regularly with gratitude for the little I had – a roof over my head, food in my fridge, and clothes on my back. I started putting myself first consistently, making decisions that were in my best interest, taking care of my health, and following my heart’s joy. As I started showing the universe that I cared about myself, the universe started showing me that it cared about me too. Opportunities started coming my way. I took advantage of them, even when it was scary, like moving halfway across the country alone. The reward was always worth the risk. As I started making money, I was always generous with it – offering to pay for friends, donating to people who needed it, giving thoughtful and generous gifts to my family. The universe gave me more money. The signs and patterns became so frequent and so clear that it was impossible to ignore.
I am now ready to make another big leap – the next big milestone in my life. I have no fear, only confidence that it will work out in my favor. My decision was made from my heart with the intention of improving my environment to one that is more supportive of my growth, my peace, and my expansion. I will be guided and supported as I step forward.
How are you showing the universe that you love yourself and trusting that you will be supported?
Love,
